The classic style of winter weddings

The focus of this issue’s front cover shoot, headed up by Photographer and Art Director Matt, of [Website link removed] was to celebrate the classic style of the winter wedding. In comment, Matt said, “From the start we knew that reds and greens certainly reflect the season, but overdoing this colour combination can all of a sudden end up making the wedding theme more festive than intended. Think about texture in your outfitting and atmosphere from your lighting.

A key observation from all of us, be it through photography, hair styling, make-up, outfitting or venue design is that throughout 2012 a less-is-more approach to colour palettes has been the vogue and our top tip for winter brides this issue is: Align your styling with silver and whites and add subtle crystal accents to add some serious glamour to your winter wedding.

Capturing those stunning images of your special day doesn’t have to be a challenge in the winter months and the season really does provide an opportunity to create something lush and rich, yet cosy. To make sure you really are looking your best here’s make-up artist Tracey’s pointers:

“Thinking about your eyes, keep in mind, dreary winter light can makes dark circles look darker and puffy eyes look puffier. Create a glow by using a little under-eye highlighter and having a hint of shimmer in your eye makeup. Add a touch of sparkle to your make-up – use a shimmer but only on one part of your face. And more overall, for your skin, concentrate on warm, glowing hues and in the weeks leading up to your day, make sure your skin doesn’t dry out by adding moisturizing oils to your bath and drink lots of water. The end result? A radiant, lit-from-within look.

On Hair, Michelle of Cut Above Studio says, “Winter weddings generally mean that you’re less likely to show off your shoulders in an attempt to keep warm. If you’re wearing a high neck, it’s best to take your hair back and away from your face. Wearing your hair up is also a great option because it won’t flatten as the day goes on even if the weather is not what you may have wished for. Securing it into an up-do means it won’t shift out of place so it’ll look fantastic in all of the pictures and one less thing to concern your mind with!”
